WhatsApp Launches Group Voice and Video Calling Features

In early May in the annual conference for F8 developers, Facebook announced it will bring new features to WhatsApp in the near future.

Voice calls and video calls, as well as stickers, are included in Facebook's promised updates to WhatsApp users. Unfortunately, the social networking company did not mention the exact time of the launch.

Now, at least two of the promised features are rolling to a number of Android users. AndroidPolice reports that many WhatsApp users are now seeing group call options on their Android devices.

The same feature is also reported to have been rolled into iOS devices recently. But reportedly, the update for the feature is not currently available on iOS devices in Indonesia.

For the record, Android users can only take advantage of the group calling feature with the newest 2.18.162 WhatsApp beta.

However, since not everyone who uses the latest iteration of WhatsApp beta sees the group's call option, it is likely that Facebook will enable this feature via server-side updates.

Data Protection Rules Protect European reader blocking

On May 25 yesterday, the EU officially enacted GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation). All companies that hold EU citizens' data are subject to such rules. In the event of leakage or misuse of data without the owner's permission, the company shall pay a penalty.

Beleid is apparently making the manager of news sites based in the United States (US) ketar-ketir. A number of news sites also chose to block European readers so they could not visit the site. US media company, Tronc, decided to block access to the population of Europe rather than dealing with the consequences of GDPR.

Understandably, in case of data leakage or misuse of user data without the permission of the owner of the data, then the company may be fined up to 20 million Euros or four percent of global revenue.

Quoted from Tech Crunch, Tronc now implies blocking European readers on the sites of the Los Angeles Times, The Chicago Tribune, The New York Daily News, The Orlando Sentinel, and The Baltimore Sun. Some media owned by Lee Enterprises also do the same blocking. The two media under Lee Enterprises that European readers can no longer access are The St. Louis Post Dispatch and The Arizona Daily Star.

When Tronc closes readers' access from Europe, at least temporarily, then a different approach is made by other US media. Instead of blocking readers from the Blue Continent, other media in the US provide different site versions for readers in Europe.

Fake follower accounts, often created by bots, can increase the number of your Instagram followers. But remember, their presence also carries some hidden risk.

Since it was created in 2010, Instagram has problems with fake followers and the problem is increasing. Although Instagram carries out a cleanup attempt, which leaves millions of accounts deleted, this social media site is still full of fake profiles that could harm your online safety.

Fortunately, most of the fake profiles are easily recognizable, as there are no profile pictures, no photos, and few followers if any. However, not a few are also difficult to identify, especially as bots become more advanced in an attempt to trick social media networks.

The problem is aggravated the fact many social media users are really looking for fake followers to increase their online presence, to attract advertisements. Buying it can also be very easy and by using an easy bot made, the company can offer to interested parties thousands of followers or comments.

Android Users Called More Difficult to Pay Credit

In the era of big data, all the things about internet users can be traced through "digital footprint" abandoned in cyberspace, including also related to the financial footprint.

A study by Tobias Berg, associate professor of Frankfurt School of Finance and Management, highlights this by analyzing data on more than 270,000 transactions. The data is collected by a German e-commerce outlet from October 2015 to December 2016. E-commerce concerned sells furniture products on credit.

Buyers can take home goods and pay later on. The data analyzed contains a variety of information, including the type and operating system the device users use when making a purchase. From here it is known that it turns out the iPhone and Android users have a different tendency in terms of credit payments.

IPhone users are more likely to pay the credit until paid off than Android users who have a default ratio (default rate) is higher. I wonder if there is a connection between the default rate with the price of most Android devices are cheaper than the iPhone. Could it mean that iPhone owners are more financially stable?
