Desktop users have many ways to secure their PCs or laptop computers. One way that can be done is to add a password in the folder.

Either Windows or Mac OS X natively supports to add passwords to your folders in an effort to protect your files. Here's how to protect folders with passwords in Windows, especially Windows Vista to the top, as quoted from Wiki How, Friday (02/06/2017).

1. Download and install third-party compression software.
7-zip software is one of the free options available today. This guide will be based on 7-Zip usage.

2. Make Compressed Files
Select the folder you want password protected. Right-click and select 7-zip from the menu. From the second menu, select 'Add to archive ...' and this will open 7-Zip.

3. Adjust the settings
You can rename the file to be created. Select .zip from the 'Archive format' menu if you want the folder to be compatible on the system without installing 7-Zip.

4. Add Password
To the right of the 7-zip window, there will be two columns to enter and confirm the password for the file. In addition, you can also choose your encryption form and also the choice of whether you want the file name to be encrypted as well. After that, click OK.

5. Delete the Original File Folder
Creating a compressed file will leave you with two copies of the data, the original file, and the compressed file. Delete and move the original inaccessible.
