Excessive Gadget Lighting, Threatening the Comfort of the User's Eyes

Gadgets or other electronic devices are now not spared from human life. But despite the sophistication of pampering the user, you should be careful when using it, especially in a long time.

As is known, gadgets such as smartphones are now even almost difficult to get out of use. As a result users have the possibility for addiction.

Lighting from a smartphone or computer screen for a long time, can cause eye health problems.

In a survey conducted by ResearchNow to 8,000 people in some countries in July 2017 showed that adults spent an average of more than six hours in front of the screen. Meanwhile, more than half (56%) experienced side effects such as eye strain.

The habit of using gadgets is not in line with the knowledge of people to maintain healthy eyes. Lighting in the room itself also provides a role for users in using the gadget, because it can make the lighting more evenly.

Compared to conventional lights as a lighting tool that is widely used by the community, LED lights are considered more capable of making the eyes comfortable. Because the LED technology is considered not flashing, has adequate lighting (no glare) and emit light evenly.

"Quality LEDs have quality lighting, no blinking, no glare and the lighting is evenly distributed. LED technology is also more convenient and affordable than other conventional lights, "said Senior Vice President Business, Business Group LED at Philips Lighting in Jakarta, Thursday (26/10/2017).

Although the lighting of the gadget itself has been able to make the user operate the device, lighting from the lights is still required.

Humas Persatuan Dokter Mata Indonesia (Perdami), dr Gitalisa Andayani, explains, when users wear gadgets still needed lighting to control the environment around them.

Without room lighting, gadget display will feel glare because it only refers to a point. Meanwhile, if the room light is turned on, will make the lighting more evenly and not just focus on one point only.

"We work while still need to see. At least every light source of the living room so we can still mengntrol environment. If there is no light it will be too dazzled, "he said.

Gitalisa recommends that users who work with computers to adjust the lighting screen with room lights for the comfort of the eye while maintaining eye health.

Not only that, Gitalisa also recommends users to put the laptop 20 cm from the face, with a not so high angle approximately 10-20 cm under the eyes
