Preparing for the 5G Network

5G network technology is expected to be present globally in 2020, some countries even want to adopt earlier in 2019. Qualcomm mobile platform company assesses Indonesia needs to pay attention to three components in order to realize 5G.

"I think the main focus is on spectrum availability, just be sure," said Senior Director and Head of Southeast Asia, Taiwan and Pacific Qualcomm International Inc. Relations, Julie G. Welch, told reporters here on Tuesday.

In order to reach an adequate spectrum, the Indonesian government is deemed necessary to make the appropriate policies for 5G and the spectrum.

Qualcomm Indonesia Chief, Shannedy Ong, added the government needs to allocate the spectrum to 5G because the main requirement of the latest generation network migration is the spectrum.

Second, the government needs to prepare the latest technology regulation because apart from different speeds, 5G also has different aspects with 4G implementation.

The point that is not less important in leading to 5G is to create a supportive ecosystem, such as the availability of devices.

"Network operators must be supported in order to provide a 5G experience, such as low latency," said Shannedy.

5G technology will be felt in the industrial sector of internet connected devices aka internet of things (IoT) that have the potential to grow rapidly in the 5G era.
