6 Tips to Use WhatsApp Safe

WhatsApp being one of the world's most popular instant messaging apps. In the fourth quarter of 2017, WhatsApp's parent, Facebook claims if WhatsApp has 1.5 billion active users globally. However, whether the security of communicating with WhatsApp can be trusted, given Facebook experienced a scandal of abuse of user data early last year. WhatsApp claims if privacy and messaging security is a priority of the platform.

All messages in WhatsApp are automatically protected by end-to-end encryption. That is, all messages both text and voice can only be seen by the sender and the recipient only. Third parties, including WhatsApp will not be able to access it. Summarized KompasTekno from WhatsApp official site, Saturday (6/23/2018), some features can be used to control the security and privacy of chatting in WhatsApp.

1. Privacy settings
In the privacy menu, there are several features that can be used to control the privacy of user profiles. Among these are reports of read messages, last seen alerts, profile information, and profile photos. The privacy setting can be done by going to the menu button in the upper right corner with a dot, then select settings, account (account) and select privacy. After selecting the privacy menu, choose which feature options to control.

To control the security of read message reports, last seen time alerts, profile information, and profile photos, can choose which of those options are allowed to view. If everyone who stores contacts is allowed to view, select the "everyone" option (everyone), if allowing only contacts we save, select my "contacts" option.

But if you do not want anyone to see, select "no" (nobody). A little note, if you disable the last seen information and message receipt, your feeding will also not be able to see the notification. Reports read will always be submitted for group conversations, even if you have disabled this option in your privacy settings. Until now, there's no way to disable the "being typing" or "online" information.

2. Control status updates
Users can also control status updates. Just like before, status updates can also be arranged by anyone who is allowed to view. Options to choose from are "all contacts" that refer to the contacts you store on the device.

The second option is "my contacts with exceptions", where you can select multiple contacts to be exposed to status updates, like the "hide" feature in the Instagram story. Last is the option "only share with certain contacts". That is, only the contacts of your choice can see your status updates.

3. Blocking unwanted users
This feature may prevent certain contacts from contacting you, either via text or phone. To do this, select the "contacts block" option, then click the contact icon in the top right corner to select which contacts you want to block. That way, a blocked account will not be able to send messages or make phone calls to WhatsApp.

4. Delete the conversation
Both personal messages and group messages can be deleted equally. To delete a message conversation in the private conversation room, hold down the messages you want to delete and select the trash can icon and select delete. If the message age is less than 1 hour 8 minutes 6 seconds, you can select the delete option for all.

Then for messages in the group window, to delete some messages alone can use a way such as deleting personal messages. But if you want to delete all conversations, can choose the option "clear the conversation" (clear chat). If you want to leave the group while clearing the message content, tap and hold the group you want to delete until a check mark appears beneath the profile picture, then select the "exit group" option. Then delete all conversations like the previous way.

5. Two-step authentication
Simply put, two-step authentication is an layered protection of an application when a user wants to log into his account. Two-step authentication methods generally use SMS to send verification codes. In addition to entering a password, users must also enter a verification code received via SMS.

How to use two-step authentication for Android phones, select the three dot menu icon on the top right side of the screen. Next select "Settings" and press "Account". Then will appear the option "two-step verification". Press the selection and enter the desired six digits as a passcode.

WhatsApp will ask for confirmation of the passcode with the request to enter the e-mail address. For iPhone users, how to enable two-step authentication is almost the same as on an Android phone. Only, the "Account" menu is accessed from the "Settings" icon in the lower right corner of the screen.
If you have followed all the process, the user account will be claimed more secure.

6. Request account info
Like Facebook and Instagram, WhatsApp also provides features that users can download about what information they collect as long as their users are active in WhatsApp. How to download profile information is by tapping the three dot icon in the top right corner, then select "after" menu (setting).

After the settings are open, choose "account" (account) menu, then select "request account info" option, then click "request report". WhatsApp informs that the new report can be received within three days after the request. Requests for information will be canceled, if the user deletes the WhatsApp account, modifies the mobile number, or re-registers the account during the postponed request.

If the document is ready, WhatsApp will give you a notification saying "your account is ready to download" (your account is ready to download). Keep in mind if WhatsApp only provides a one-week break to download the data.

The information recorded by WhatsApp includes, phone number, IP connection used, device type used, device vendor, profile photo, all contact numbers, all WhatsApp groups where users enter in and any number of contacts that are blocked.
