Add Options to Download Google Maps

Have you ever stopped at an unknown location, without internet access, and you are confused to find free WiFi hotspot? Google now provides a solution for Android users to download maps.

The search engine giant has added a new Labs feature in Maps 5.7 which lets you select an area and then download maps and landmarks within a radius of 10 miles (about 16 kilometers).
Satellite layer not downloaded, but what you get is more than enough for basic navigation. You still can not plan a route without data access. But if your phone has GPS, it can help you find the intended location.
You can not get a route such as the Nokia Ovi Maps. Therefore, you can not do an offline search for addresses and routes.
To try this feature, you simply open the menu, enter the "Options" and press the "Labs". Then select "Download folder" area. Also there are other Labs features that can be tried, including "Scale Bar" and features "Measure". Features "Scale Bar" shows the distance in the map, while the features of "Measure" lets you press two or three points to measure the space between those points.
It's free. But it seems the download will only work on phones that run the Android operating system 2.1 or higher. If you're worried about running out of storage space, Maps will delete it after 30 days or you can delete the cache manually through the "More" in the menu.
Already done testing in offline mode and it seems this is very helpful tourist. So make sure you have a GPS device with a built-in to maximize the use of the maps offline.
