Powerwall, Electric Battery Replacement

Tesla keep expanding. Not only develop electric cars alone, US companies began to create a new product, a battery housing which can function as a standalone power source.

Replacement battery home electricity has now been introduced and started to be booked in the US market. Name of the product is Powerwall.

As the name suggests, Powerwall manifold is a lithium-ion battery is designed to be attached to or mounted on the wall of the house. The battery serves as a power source independent so that users do not need to be connected to the electrical service in a country, such as PLN example.

The battery system can also be connected to the internet. According to Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, with that ability, Powerwall can be used to create a "smart electricity grid micro".

"Everything is a system that works," said Musk, as KompasTekno quotes from The Verge, Monday (04/05/2015).

Powerwall will come in two versions of electric capacity, ie 10 kWh and 7 kWh. With the electric capacity, Powerwall should not be used as the primary power source.

However, it can be used as a backup electric power in times of emergency. Tesla's own party, through its official website, menyontohkan this Powerwall use during the day.

At that time, according to Tesla, electricity is not too much use so Powerwall suitable for use. Kimbal Musk, a member of the board of directors of Tesla, claims, using Powerwall, a house can save up to 25 percent of the electricity bill.

To charge the battery, Powerwall does not need to be connected to a power source. The box-shaped device utilizes sunlight or solar power to charge the battery.

Prices of Powerwall still very high. For a capacity of 10 kWh, the device is sold for 3,500 US dollars, or approximately USD 45 million. Meanwhile, the capacity of 7 kWh sold 3,000 US dollars, or approximately USD 39 million.

Not yet known whether Powerwall will go to Indonesia or not.
