Researchers Develop Solar Cells So Hydrocarbon Fuels

Researchers from the University of Illinois at Chicago have created a solar cell that will convert carbon dioxide into hydrocarbon fuels.

The idea of creation of energy derived from solar cells is to mimic the way photosynthesis in plants, which is not only supporting the energy, but also able to clean the abundance of carbon dispersed in the atmosphere.

According to Amin Salehi-Khojin, assistant professor of mechanical engineering industry and the University of Illinois Chicago express this energy is the energy of photosynthesis.

"The technology is not like the others, who only uses one route from fossil fuels to gas is environmentally friendly. However, we make these technologies instead, which recycles carbon in the atmosphere into fuel through sunlight," he said quoted by page Ubergizmo Tuesday (2/8).

With the invention, it is believed the cost of the formation of carbon dioxide into fuel will be equal in number to a gallon of gasoline. The researchers also said that these findings can be very beneficial use in the majority Mars atmosphere containing carbon dioxide.

Not yet known when and where the technology will be implemented, but it is predicted that the invention can be used in agriculture and small-scale applications, namely as a charger.
