The widespread use of mobile phones Android platform make it the target of malicious programs in 2012. According to Kaspersky Lab, 2012 is the second year when the malware evolving so rapidly. In January 2011, Kaspersky only discovered eight new unique malware. However, the number is the average per month rose to more than 800 samples.
In 2012, the number of malicious programs that identified each month increased more dramatically. Russian network security company found more than 6,300 new mobile malware samples per month. Overall, the number of samples of malicious program targeting Android is known to increase more than eight-fold by 2012.
The majority of Android malware can be divided into three main groups based on functionality.
The first is SMS trojan. The kind that one is able to drain the account / credit victims by sending SMS to premium numbers.
The second threat is the backdoor. This species is capable of providing illegal access on smartphones and allows the installation of other malware or theft of personal data.
The last type is spyware. This type of malicious program capable of collecting personal data such as address and password.
"In the first half of 2012, backdoor, SMS Trojan, and spyware as a whole accounted for 51 percent of all new Android malware is found," wrote Kaspersky Lab in its official statement on Tuesday (01/08/2013).
