Facebook Messenger on iPhone Could Free Phones

Facebook did an update on the instant messaging application Facebook Messenger for iPhone, which allows users to make phone calls over the Internet, on Thursday (17/01/2013).

In the Facebook Messenger app for the iPhone, there is a new button that offers users make phone calls through Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP). However, the service is currently only available for the U.S. and not all Facebook users can enjoy.

Facebook Party has yet to give detailed information about the feature expansion to other markets outside the United States. The company was founded by Mark Zuckerberg is also yet to announce the availability of new features in Android devices.



Quoted from tech blog TheNextWeb, how to make phone calls from the Facebook Messenger on the iPhone is quite easy. Click on a friend's profile in Facebook Messenger app like you want to send an instant message, then press the "i" in the upper right. Then just press the button "Free Call."

IPhone users can make phone calls using WiFi or data services. The recipient will receive notification of incoming phone calls Facebook Messenger app.

Besides Facebook Messenger, some other instant messaging applications such as Line and KakaoTalk, had first offered service calls through VoIP. BlackBerry Messenger 6 and 7 for BBOS BBOS 7 also can do it, but had to use a WiFi network.
