In
one of their first major event since the announcement of the initial
public offering (IPO) in May 2012, Facebook announced their latest
product called Graph Search, Wednesday (16/01/2013).
Graph Search, in line with its name, is a product search service (search engine). However,
Mark Zuckerberg, CEO and founder of Facebook, firmly stating that this
product differs significantly from the search service owned by Google.
"Web
search (search services such as Google) designed to find open query and
give you a link to the answers that may be true," said Zuckerberg.
"Graph
Chart is designed to perform a search query and give you the right
answer rather than give the link that may provide the answer," said
Zuckerberg.
For example, users can request Graph Search search for a query such as "Who is my friends who live in Jakarta?". By
default, the system will search for answers to these questions from the
billions of data in the data base up, instead of somewhere else.
The user can also perform searches of specific questions, such as "Who are people who live in Indonesia?" or "house to eat anything contained in Jakarta?".
In
fact, the users of these services can provide interest-based questions
such as "Who is my friend who is a fan of Star Wars and Harry Potter? '.
In addition, users can also take advantage Graph Search for recruitment events. For
example, if a user wants to find a new accountant, users can type in
the question "Who is an accountant who works in Jakarta?".
Quoted from Tech Crunch, Wednesday (16/01/2013), Graph Search new to the stage in a limited beta starting today.
"We
will begin a limited service from Graph Search product at this time,
but it will start with not too quickly. We need to get data from people
who use it, so we can make better data. However, we want to bring more
people services within a few weeks or months, "said Zuckerberg.
