Europol helping countries tackle such attacks , said Oerting .
Data stolen
" We have seen the abuse of wi - fi to steal information , identity or keyword and money from users who are using a public connection or wi - fi is not safe , " he said .
" We have to teach users that they should not discuss sensitive information while using the internet via wi - fi is not secure .
" They have to do it from home , where the wi-fi network safety ensured . But if you 're in a coffee shop you do not access the bank or do anything that involves the transfer of sensitive information . "
Oerting says hackers and data thieves do not use sophisticated techniques but deceive people in order to use the wi- fi connection that seems to come from a coffee shop or restaurant .
