Facebook Could Identify Songs and TV Shows

Facebook on Wednesday ( 05/21/2014 ) introduces a new feature for its mobile Facebook application . This application can help users identify songs or TV shows by enabling smartphone speakers .

Features touted similar to Shazam will then scan the surrounding sounds and can recognize a song or a TV show . Users can then instantly share them via status updates on Facebook .

Every song that is shared through the Facebook status updates , then can be played by all your friends in Facebook , for 30 seconds , similar to one of the social networking features of Path .

Facebook emphasizes the security of this new feature by affirming that all the data from the recording activities are done with the application will not be stored on Facebook servers .

Additionally , with Facebook , users can also view episodes and seasons of a show that is being watched by the user .

Facebook claims to have a database of millions of songs , as well as being able to recognize events programs belong to more than 160 different TV stations .

According to ReadWrite ( 21/05/2014 ) , step up to add features such as the above is as part of a strategy to make social networking the " second screen " for users to talk about music or TV shows .

This new feature will be available to mobile Facebook apps on the Android and iOS platforms within the next few weeks .
