Intel & Stephen Hawking Create Smart Wheelchairs

Microprocessor company, Intel, creating a wheelchair that is able to connect to the internet. The device is intended for use by disabled people (disabled people) as part of the Intel program collaborators.

The wheelchair is able to monitor the vital organs of the people who use it, including blood pressure, heart rate and body temperature.

The tool is also able to inform users about the situation surrounding environment, so that the disabled can know the state or access a site somewhere, before visit.

"This project is an example of how the 'Internet of Things' can help change lives," said Intel CEO Brian Krzanich as reported by Mashable, Saturday (13/09/2014).

This project is also the result of a collaboration between Intel and physicists the world, Stephen Hawking. Hawking has been using a wheelchair for more than 30 years.

"Drugs can not cure me, so I rely on technology," Hawking said in a video.

Hawking added, the technology he uses for this, allowing it to interact with the world.

This wheelchair that helps me stay alive. This tool also prompted me to talk to you now, "said Hawking again.

According to the scientists, the smart wheelchair using hardware and software based on open source, so that development can be customized as needed.

Hawking worked with engineers at Intel for 10 years to develop this tool. In a video, hawking says this smart wheelchair can significantly improve daily life for people with disabilities.

"This is a good example of how to create a technology with disabilities, are able to be a proving ground for future technologies," said Hawking.
