Facebook Introduces New Mobile Platform 'OpenCellular'

Facebook has long worked to provide internet access to people who do not have it. After having rejected Internet.org India, Facebook introduced a new platform called OpenCellular.

As reported by The Verge, Thursday (07/07/2016), OpenCellular is open source 'wireless access platform' which is designed to reduce prices of mobile network services which have been hard to do. The system is designed to provide the tools to set up a full network of physical hardware to run the software.

Facebook said that it would launch Teleceom Infta Project (TIP) at the beginning of this year with the aim to find new approaches to set a data intensive communications networks and to rethink how humans use technology that already present.

Nevertheless, Facebook acknowledged that penetrated into the world of mobile access is not easy. However, Mark Zuckerberg confident that this platform will help telecom operators, researchers, and entrepreneurs by providing support to 1,500 people as far as 10 kilometers despite their small size.

"We designed OpenCellular as an open system so that anyone, from telecommunications operators, for researchers, for the entrepreneur, to build and operate a wireless network in remote places. The size is just like a shoe box and can support up to 1,500 people from as far as 10 kilometers, "wrote Zuck through his posts on Facebook.
