Google "Forced" Android Vendor Diligent Patch

Google provides monthly security updates to patch the security gaps and bugs in the Android operating system. Unfortunately, not all Android manufacturers follow this step.

Going forward, it will change with Google policy changes announced in the Google I / O conference last week in San Francisco, United States.

Android platform security chief David Kleidermacher said Google had changed the terms with a number of Android manufacturer associates to have their devices routinely updated security patches, as Google did.

"This will greatly increase the number of devices and users that receive security patches on a regular basis," Kleidermacher said, as summarized by KompasTekno of XDA Developers, Monday (5/14/2018).

Unfortunately, Kleidermacher did not disclose which Android manufacturer gets the new provisions and will release regular updates from Google.

Even so, the manufacturers may include those included in the list of recipients of Android OS P Beta, namely Nokia, OnePlus, Oppo, Sony, Vivo, and Xiaomi. Not yet known how often they will release a regular patch, whether once a month like Google or in different intervals.

Google usually releases patches to patch security flaws in the first week of every month. The manufacturer of the Android manufacturer received this update one month earlier so it can be released simultaneously.

However, beyond expensive flagship devices, most Android manufacturers rarely release security updates quickly and prefer to combine all the patches in one major update that is released every few months.

Implementation of this routine update will be accomplished through Project Treble. It also indicates that the new provisions about Google's regular updates with the Android manufacturers only apply to devices operating with Android operating system 8.0 or later, which is to get a new framework for updaye software.
