Djulianto Yogyakarta State University student has developed an induction generator that can be used for hydropower or micro hydro power plant.
"The equipment can be developed as power plants, especially for remote areas not reached by electricity from State Electricity Company (PLN)," said Djulianto in Yogyakarta on Wednesday.
In fact, according to students of Faculty of Engineering Department of Electrical Engineering, State University of Yogyakarta (UNY), in the area contained the natural potential such as mountains and waterfalls, but their utilization is not optimal.
"Therefore, the tool is expected to become an alternative to diesel power plants are operational costs due to greater use of fuel, especially diesel," he said.
He said the tool that produces electrical energy by altering the induction motor as a generator. Modified induction motor as a generator which has advantages in simplicity and low maintenance costs, so this type of motor is widely used in industrial environments and households.
"The idea was triggered by the fact there are many remote areas not reached by electricity. In fact, electricity is needed by society not to lag in getting information that aims to promote the local area and increase the productivity of its people," he said.
According to him, the results of testing single phase induction motor as a generator shows that the system can work as a generator tool because it can generate a voltage.
"Going forward, we will continue to develop the product, especially in the setting of voltage and frequency scale," he said.
