Scientists Discover New Tri-Anion Particle

A group of scientists discovered a new type of particle that had never been investigated before. The new particle called tri-anion is a great news for the world of chemistry and physics. Tri-anion is believed to be the basis for the creation of new consumer products such as aluminum-ion batteries

The particle is named tri-anion because it contains three more electrons than a proton. The research team is headed by physicist Puru Jena. "This finding is very important, no one has ever found tri-anion," Jena said quoted from the Science Alert page.

Tri-anion findings mentioned can be applied to the industrial world and create a new kind of ion-aluminum battery. Different from the anions that have an additional two electrons, tri-anion has more benefits than just as a battery raw material.

"Some particles play an important role for many reasons: First, it can produce salt, both of which can be used in various chemical mixtures such as floor cleaners that kill bacteria," Jena explained.

Offshore Power Generation is Cheaper than Nuclear

For the first time, the cost of generating energy from offshore winds in the UK is cheaper than nuclear. As quoted from the page, Independent, official data published on Monday revealed, offshore wind projects can generate power 74.75 per hour megawatt, while the nuclear only 57.50.

"We know today's results will be impressive, but this is very surprising," said Hugh McNeal, chief executive officer of RenewableUK, the UK renewable energy trade association.

"The record-breaking cost reduction as achieved by offshore winds is unprecedented for large energy infrastructure," he said.

Larger turbines and higher voltage cables in recent years have caused prices for wind power to fall. The new price averaged 47 percent lower than two and a half years ago when the last competitive auction result was announced.

Michael Grubb, professor of international energy and climate change policy at University College London, said the auction results confirm a new era in British energy.

"Wind energy will make the mantle the most important and valuable energy source in the UK when our oil and gas runs out, turning the energy world upside down," he said.

Four Ways to Minimize the Risk of Cyber Attack

As cyber threats continue to evolve and flourish, organizations and individuals need to ensure that they have a solid, clean and strong cyber security plan. Here are four best practices that individuals and organizations can consider to minimize cyber risk and stay afloat in the ever-changing threat landscape, as released by Microsoft Asia Pacific:

1. Do not work in public Wi-Fi hotspots where attackers can "peek" digital communications, capture login details and passwords, and access personal data.

2. Regularly update the operating system and other software programs to ensure the latest patch has been installed. This can reduce the risk of exploitation of vulnerability.

3. Reduce the risk of compromising credentials by educating users about why they should avoid simple keywords and implement multi-factor authentication methods, such as one from Azure Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA).

AI Analysis Ability 10 Million Times Faster than Humans

The latest findings reveal artificial intelligence (AI) that can analyze the distortion of space time 10 million times faster than humans. The review is spelled out in scientific studies published in the journal Nature.

The phenomenon studied is the gravitational lens, distortion or swelling of time space which is one derivative of Einstein's theory of relativity. Many astronomers use this method to reveal more about the universe.

The Science Alert page reported, the research team came from Kavli Astrophysics and Cosmology Institute (KIPAC), Stanford, California, USA. They work with the National Accelerator Laboratium SLAC of the US Department of Energy along with the Stanford University.

"The analysis that usually takes weeks to weeks by experts can now be done by the neural network automatically in just a fraction of a second," says study author Laurence Perreault Levasseur.

He explains, the team uses artificial neural networks that are trained by exposing them with half a million simulated images of gravitational lens. The network is then shown the actual image of the gravitational lens and proved able to analyze the distortion of less than half a second.
