YouTube already has high dynamic range (HDR) video content since 2016, but not many smartphones can play this kind of video. Well, last week, the video sharing site added HDR support for some of the latest high-end smartphone models.
Smartphones include Samsung Galaxy Note 8, Galaxy S8, LG V30, LG G6, Google Pixel, and Xperia XZ Premium are all capable of playing HDR video.
Galaxy Note 7, which was launched in mid-2016 actually already supports HDR video, but the device had to be withdrawn from the market because of battery problems
HDR video on YouTube can be viewed from the above smartphone models with resolution up to full-HD (1,920 x 1,080) and frame rate of 60 FPS, as summarized by KompasTekno from The Verge on Monday (9/11/2017).
YouTube automatically recognizes the device automatically and provides the option to enable video playback in HDR mode, when the associated device is capable of playing it.
Compared to the world of photography, the application of HDR content is relatively not widespread in the realm of video. This technology maximizes the range of contrast and color, so the image looks much more realistic.
