Watermarks or watermarks are often used by photographers, photo communities, or stock photo service providers to mark their photos to avoid being misused. The standard practice of watermarking is considered as one way of copyright protection from the photo.
Typically, a watermark of images, logos, or transparent words are included in a photo. However, this practice is still vulnerable to copyright infringement. The reason, there is still a way that can be taken to remove the watermark.
Google has also created a computer program or Artificial Intelligence (AI) that can remove watermarks, especially for a collection or photo collection. This program is claimed to be able to help photographers, photography community, and stock photo service providers to be able to protect the copyright of their works by knowing the vulnerability level of the watermarking practice.
'' It is quite difficult to remove the watermark from one photo. But for a set of photos, there is a consistent pattern that is applied, and it can be solved and removed, '' wrote a paper from Google presented at the event Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition Conference, as quoted by the Daily Mail, Monday (21/8) WIB.
The program, further explanation in the paper, can reduce the opacity level and display photos that previously had a watermark mark. The program will recognize a set of photos that have the same watermark mark.
'' If this watermark mark is applied in some photos, then the sign will be a signal from the photo collection. Patterns and signals can be recognized and finally removed, '' further information from Google.
After successfully identifying the watermark mark, the program will decompose the photo, especially the alpha matte element to show the original photo without watertmark. This process is often called 'multi image matting'. In this process, the watermark marks are separated from the photographs.
'' This program works with a high degree of accuracy. The algorithm in this program reveals a pattern or signal that is consistently used in photos, and can remove the watermark and replace it with the same photo with high accuracy, '' wrote an explanation from Google in the paper.
