The EE mobile phone network demonstrates a 5G network, showing a 2.8 Gbps download speed. The test was in collaboration with the telecommunications company, Huawei.
Launched Computing, the test connects a 5G core virtualization to an active MIMO 64x64 Massive antenna unit that broadcasts 5G New Radio. Reportedly, the virtualization of this network technology can reduce costs, improve efficiency and help create new services.
The technology is on display at Huawei's Global Mobile Broadband Forum this week. By using Huawei's proof-of-concept baseband unit, the company connects 5G core networks with a 100MHz test spectrum of 3.5 GHz. As a result, high speed and high latency rates are delivered end-to-end.
The 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) standard body is currently working on the first official global standard that outlines how 5G will be built. The 5G EE architecture is aligned with the three Option of 3GPP Release 15, which will be completed next month.
