Meng Bo Professor of Peking University is building a generator that is able to charge the phone using the human body electron . The device is called a single - friction - surface triboelectric generator ( STEG ) can recharge when fingertip attached to the conductive material layer in the device .

When certain materials are rubbed together, friction would result in a buildup of electrical charge between two objects . Static electricity is an example of this effect . During the latest trial , a professor Meng and his team put up a mobile phone with a transparent coating material containing STEG . Electrodes are placed on the side of the device and the user's finger .
