The fact that social media could serve as a medium for marketing, campaigns, and branding is no longer be denied. However,
social media as a source of insight and useful data for companies that
influence the decision-making has not been ogled or considered.
How does the phenomenon of social media use for that purpose in the world of Indonesia? This
is discussed in the chat IBM research "The CIO Study" with Charles
Kamau Njendu, Senior Engagement Manager IBM Global Business Services and
Dino Bramanto Singapore, Country Manager of Global Technology Services
IBM Indonesia, today (10/06/2011) in Jakarta.
Globally,
Njendu said, the phenomenon of the use of social media as a source of
insight and data business globally is currently being developed. "Facebook
is now being used by marketers to engage with the customer, including
obtaining information. Although the need to be wise also to take
information from social media," said Njendu.
Meanwhile,
in Indonesia, Doni said: "All this social media is still used most of
its designation. There are already using it as a marketing medium. But
for business purposes such as obtaining the customer data, it has not
been much done."
Nevertheless,
the signs of the use of social media for the purpose of insight and
data to support business interests has begun in Indonesia today. At
least, said Doni, it has been started in the banking sector where there
is a large bank in Indonesia that currently utilize social media to
serve the customer complaints.
"There
is already a major bank in Indonesia that currently utilize social
media. It is still in service efforts such as for customer complaints,
as well as imaging and to confirm or counter the growing issue. But I
believe, the future direction would be toward social media over there, "said Doni.
Resources
and data management are currently very important for a company to
develop business strategies and stay in the middle of the competition. In
addition to business analytics and intelligent as the knife analysis,
sources of data such as social media becomes a new way to obtain
valuable information.
Research
"The CIO Study" conducted by IBM to conduct interviews about 3000 Chief
Executive Officer (CIO) including 168 people from among themselves is
an attempt to understand the trend of the CIO role in business today. It
is known that the CIO role is increasingly important, 68% of companies
feel that technology is important for the development of the company and
58% of companies have been integrating business and technology to help
innovate.
