Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announces new features for those who are single on Facebook. This feature will give the singles opportunity to expand its coverage in the virtual world of Facebook and connect with other people who are also single.
Zuckerberg said more than 200 million people on Facebook's list are single. This new platform will let single people connect with people outside of their friends list.
"This will build a real, long-term relationship, not just for (just) a relationship," Zuckerberg said, quoted by the Independent on Wednesday (2/5). According to him, Facebook has designed this feature by considering privacy and safety from the beginning. Your friends will not see your profile and will only be suggested to people who are not your friends.
Facebook Chief Product Officer Chris Cox explains that feature has been in development for a long time. '' We believe this feature will be the next feature that Facebook will add. We hope with this will be more people to meet, and hopefully find a partner, '' he said.
This feature will be opted in and will be supported via the Facebook app. However, they can create separate profiles from Facebook. If there is a potential match, it will be recommended based on dating preferences, commonality and mutual friends.
Users will have the option to find other people with similar interests through their group or event. However, what people do in the dating feature will not be shown to their friends. '' We will share more information when it starts to be tested later this year, '' he explained.
