Last year, Intel has confirmed that they canceled plans to create a new Atom processor for smartphones. Nevertheless, it seems that the plan was not entirely void.
The reason, Intel is working with Spreadtrum, a Chinese processor company, to create octa-core processor that can be used in smartphones. A device with this processor is scheduled to launch in 2017 as well.
This cooperation is indicated from smartphones showcased in the Intel booth at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2017 in Barcelona. Because, of the smartphone use processors made by Spreadtrum.
As reported by KompasTekno of Android Authority, Friday (03/02/2017), Spreadtrum processor made this code-name SC9861G IA. Although not cite the name of the Intel processor line, the overall processor SC9816G-IA was created based on the microarchitecture design Airmont.
Just to note, Airmont an Intel Atom processor family, introduced in 2015 ago. Most of Airmont similar Silvermont microarchitecture design, but adds a number of improvements.
SC9816G-IA processor will be combined with a PowerVR graphics processing unit GT2700, which can handle a maximum resolution of 2560x1440 pixels and 4K video. According to the plan, this processor will be available on the market in the second half of 2017.
