Qualcomm along with several mobile operators and other technology companies, seeking to hold 5G internet technology becomes faster. Initially, cellular technology is not expected to be present in 2020. However Qualcomm wants to spread them out in 2019.
Other companies in question consist of AT & T, NTT DoCoMo, SK Telecom, Vodafone, Ericsoon, British Telecom, Telstra, Korea Telecom, Intel, LG Uplus, KDDI, LG Electronics, Telia Company, Swisscom, TIM, Etisalat Group, Huawei, Sprint, Vivo, ZTE, and Deutsche Telekom.
Qualcomm's Vice President of Engineering, John Smee told, Qualcomm and other companies will file a new schedule 5G attendance to 3GPP, a global organization dealing with cellular technology, this week also.
"If approved, the bulk 5G trials could begin in 2018," said Smee to KompasTekno at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2017.
Country Manager of Qualcomm Indonesia, Shannedy Ong added that the trial could be started on one of the largest sporting event next year.
"The test can be started during the 2018 Winter Olympic in South Korea," said Shannedy in a separate place.
If successful, the world community can already feel the fast internet by 2019.
"Even so, 5G can only be held in a country whose infrastructure is ready," he said again.
Standardization of 5G did not yet determined. However, Qualcomm along with other companies will propose a technology called 5G New Radio (NR) as a global standard.
The connection using a prototype system of sub-6 GHz 5G NR of Qualcomm spectrum capable of operating in the mid-band 3.3 to 5.0 GHz.
It shows how the NR 5G technology can be used to achieve gigabit per second data rate efficiently with lower latency than 4G LTE networks that exist today.
interoperability test
Qualcomm's own party states would immediately conduct interoperability testing in some countries.
In the United States, Qualcomm Technologies together with Ericsson and Vodafone conduct interoperability tests 5G and conducting field trials of over-the-air by NR 5G specification being developed by 3GPP.
Meanwhile, Qualcomm will be working with Ericsson and Telstra to perform the same tests in Australia.
For Asia, Qualcomm will collaborate with Ericsson and NTT DoCoMo in Japan as well as ZTE and China Mobile in China to carry out similar tests.
Trials in Japan to be operational in mid-band spectrum and spectrum 4.5 GHz millimeter wave (mmWave) 28 Ghz. While the mid-spectrum 3.5 GHz band will be used for trial operation in China.
This test aims to encourage commercialization and validation 5G NR thus enabling the launch of the network, infrastructure, and commercial 5G devices that comply with 3GPP Rel-15.
