Types of Android phones are increasingly diverse with a price range that reaches all classes, from high-end to entry-level. The problem is, cheap Android phones often do not provide optimal performance.
As a result, although people are able to buy Android devices, utilization is not optimal. Based on this phenomenon Google presents a solution in the form of a new mobile operating system called "Android Go".
The main purpose of Android Go there are three, namely to bring Android phones more pocket friendly with the performance of flagship smartphone, minimize consumption of the internet by users, and presents an efficient application of memory and data.
The target market is clear, ie the community in developing countries or termed Google as "Next Billion Users".
According to Google's VP of Product Management, Sameer Samat, Android Go is possible thanks to optimization across three sectors, namely the operating system, apps, and Play Store.
"We will optimize Android O so that manufacturers can make cheap phones with good operating system," he said on Wednesday (05/17/2017), the Google I / O 2017, Shoreline Amphitheater, Mountain View, USA.
As reported KompasTekno journalist Fatimah Kartini, Android O can even be stuck on the phone with 512 MB of memory and 1 GB. Android O will revive old Android phones with low specifications.
There is also a Quick Settings feature so that users can know the use of data in a transparent and manage it more effectively. ?
In terms of applications, Google is developing applications in a more efficient version of data and memory but still good performance. For example, Google has created a new app called "YouTube Go".
This app provides an overview for users before full video streaming. In addition, users can also download a video when connected to WiFi, to then be enjoyed in an offline state.
In terms of Play Store, Android Go will display special highlights for data-saving applications. That way, users can find applications that suit your needs. However, it is not clear when Android O will be deployed Google to various smartphones.
