Standardization build 5G

Intel and Foxconn agreed to work together to build a 5G network standardization. The cooperation also includes the pilot project for the implementation of Mobile Edge Computing, Cloud Radio Access Network, and Network Functions Virtualization.

"Our priority now is to build a 5G network standardization," said Executive Vice President General Manager of Intel's Data Center Group Corporation, Diane M Bryant, in Taipei, Taiwan, Tuesday (31/05/2016).

The collaboration is expected to test, prove, and bring Internet network more intelligent, efficient, as well as flexible.

In the cultivation of this pilot project, Intel is working with Foxconn's Advanced Communication Academy (FACA) for technology development.

As for the testing and verification of the implementation of the 5G network will put telecom operators networks in the Asia Pacific Telecom under the auspices of Foxconn.

In practice, Foxconn will use Intel's reference architecture and technology to make hardware for end user equipment, along with the main device and wireless access networks, as the development of communications solutions provider they already have.

"We have experience in manufacturing," said Chairman of Foxconn, Fang-Ming Lu, when appearing in Intel Keynote for Computex Taipei 2016 on Tuesday.

Target collaboration is to accelerate the readiness of the industry to re-establish telecommunications network amid a surge in volume and complexity of data traffic.

Here are the details of arable together with Intel and Foxconn for standardization 5G:

1. Cloud Radio Access Network (CRAN)

Intel will provide architectural concepts and technology mini-CRAN hardware platform and the remote radio head (RRH), for the manufacture of products by Foxconn. CRAN claimed promises a more appropriate infrastructure while ensuring prices are more scalable capacity for use in densely populated urban area, with the implementation of the NAP functionality in the cloud.

2. User equipment (UE)

Intel provides a chipset, reference designs, and device drivers that adopt 5G network. The goal, to help Foxconn verified in trials CRAN in 5G network.

3. Mobile Edge Controller (MEC)

Intel will provide technology support for the Network Edge Virtualization (NEV) SDK and Data Plane Development Kit (DPDK) for Foxconn develop MEC system.

MEC will expand the application of internet networking capability, which enables ultra-low latency, high bandwidth, and access real-time.

4. Network Functions Virtualization

Intel Open Network Platform will become a reference platform for network function virtualization infrastructure (NFVI), as the basis for the ecosystem 5G.

5. Trial

Done through the Asia Pacific Telecom to verify the effectiveness of Foxconn-made components and infrastructure built in the 5G network ecosystem.
