5G phones will appear in 2019

Mobile phones that support connecting to the 5G network are expected to start appearing in 2019. "Smart phones (with the 5G network) will come out mid-2019," said Ericsson Indonesia Network Solution Chief Ronni Nurmal, while explaining 2018 third quarter Mobility Report research in Jakarta , Thursday (12/20).

The launch of a device that supports 5G networks can even be faster because manufacturers usually showcase their latest products at the MWC event held every February in Barcelona, Spain. The 5G network is divided into ultra bands, mid bands and low bands. It is estimated that 2019 will be the beginning of the emergence of 5G generation phones and increase in 2020.

By the end of 2019, 5G devices will be emerging for all 5G network categories. The Ericsson Mobility Report predicts 5G network subscriptions will reach 1.5 billion and reach more than 40 percent of the global population. Ericsson underlined the main key to the launch of 5G is increasing network capacity, per-gigabyte costs, and new usage requirements.

Large adoption rates are usually supported by the availability of devices at affordable prices. Meanwhile, the total number of cellular customers globally based on Ericsson's data in the third quarter of 2018 reached 7.9 billion, with the addition of new customers totaling 120 million.

Indonesia contributed to the addition of 13 million cellular subscribers, below China (37 million) and India (31 million). In the third quarter of 2018, data service traffic growth reached 79 percent year on year, the highest growth since 2013.

In Southeast Asia and Oceania, the WCDMA and HSPA networks are still dominant, as much as 48 percent of all cellular data customers. Ericsson noted 4G LTE subscriptions grew 70 percent during 2018, representing a market share of 26 percent. It is estimated that 4G subscriptions will continue to grow to reach 63 percent in 2024 in Southeast Asia and Oceania.
