In the near future, many airlines will soon equip their aircraft with better internet services using satellite technology.
Honeywell Aerospace and Gogo company based in the U.S., for example, will provide Internet service in aircraft with the cooperation of the Inmarsat satellite network. It will be a global network of high-speed broadband for the first aircraft, known as Global Xpress Aviation Network.
Head of Honeywell Aerospace Asia Pacific Briand Greer said, the internet connection on airplanes could generate revenues of 2.8 billion dollars for the company within the next 20 years.
"Now there are about seven to eight percent of the airlines that have a wireless network, and estimate this number will grow to 25 percent by 2018," he said as reported by voanews.com, Tuesday (4/3).
He added that the internet connection on an aircraft can reach speeds of 50 megabites per second for downloading data.
