Android OS Story Initially Created Not for Smartphones

Android is now a popular smartphone operating system, with a market share of 88 percent worldwide. But there is a surprising fact behind the creation of Android. Apparently at first, the Android OS was not created for smartphone devices, but digital cameras.

The initial prototype of the Android OS allows a camera to be connected to a computer device, and is connected to the data center owned by Android. Thus, users do not require large storage for their photos.

Based on a statement from Andy Rubin, the creator of Android, this discovery was presented in front of investors in 2004. However, the function of the system seems to be reviewed. The reason, at that time the digital camera market began to fade.

As a result, Android must also be redesigned as a handset operating system. It comes with a new mission. No longer as a system that is only for digital cameras, but mobile devices are designed to better understand the owner.

The concept possessed by the green robot is then arouse the interest of the giant Google to have it.

In August 2005, Google bought 100 percent of Android stock. Based on information quoted KompasTekno from Tech Spot, Thursday (5/1/2018), Google acquisition by Google is estimated to reach 50 million US dollars (Rp 673 billion).

After the acquisition process, Rubin and other Android co-founders were withdrawn into Google. Rubin himself is believed to be the Vice President of the company. But eight years later, Rubin left Google and set up his own hardware startup in 2014.

Now, Android has become the operating system that dominate the world smartphone. In 2016 and then, Android has been adopted by 88 percent of the world's smartphones.
