Instagram launched three new features to safeguard the security of users. Instagram expects new features to help it become a safer platform.
"Today, we want to raise three important steps launched to continue to keep Instagram and our community of one billion people safe," said Instagram Co-Founder and CTO, Mike Krieger, in a written statement received in Jakarta on Wednesday. (29/8)
First, the new feature can help users check the authenticity of an Instagram account with a large number of followers. In addition, Instagram launched a form for global verification requests, for prominent public figure accounts. Not only that, Instagram also announced two-factor authentication updates for safer use.
"Our mission is to bring you closer to the people and things you like, and this closeness can only occur if Instagram continues to be a safe platform," Krieger said.

Verification request form
In addition to the "About This Account" feature, a blue verification badge is also an important way for users to find out whether the account that interacts with them is an official account from a prominent public figure, brand celebrity or global entity. Instagram provides a new way for accounts that have lots of followers and meet Instagram criteria, in requesting an Instagram verification badge through the form contained in the application.
To obtain a verification badge, an account must meet the Terms of Service and the Instagram Community Guide. Instagram will review the verification request to confirm the authenticity, uniqueness, completeness and feasibility of each account.
To access the verification request form, open your profile, tap the gear icon, and select "Request Verification." You will be asked to enter your username, your full name and a copy of your identity card or official statement regarding your business. This information will not be shared publicly.
Keep in mind, sending a verification request does not guarantee that your account will be verified. After the request is reviewed, you will receive a notification confirming or rejecting your request on the notification page.
Instagram also asserted that they never charge fees for submitting verification or contacting you to confirm your verification request.
Two-factor authentication
Finally, users will soon be able to use a third-party authentication application to log in to their Instagram account. This form of two-factor authentication helps you to log in to Instagram more easily and safely.
To use a third party application to log in to your Instagram account, open the settings, press "Privacy and Security" and select "Two Factor Authentication." Select "Authentication Application" as the form of authentication that you selected.
If you have downloaded an authentication application on your device, Instagram will find the application automatically, and send the login code to the application. Open the application, get the code and enter the code into Instagram, and two-factor authentication will be activated automatically.
If you don't have a third-party two-factor authentication application, Instagram will direct you to the Apple App Store or Google Play Store to download the authentication app of your choice. After downloading, go back to Instagram to continue your two-factor authentication settings.
Support for third-party authentication applications is launched and will be available to the global community in the coming weeks.
