Facebook announced the Digital Literacy Library contains educational materials that can be developed by educational institutions as teaching materials.
"There are 830 million young people in cyberspace around the world, this library is a source for teachers who are interested in digital literacy, to help young people develop the skills needed to be able to access digital technology in a safe way," Facebook wrote in upload on their official blog.
Facebook collaborated with the Youth and Media team at the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society from Harvard University in developing materials compiled for ages 11-18 years. The themes included in this teaching material range from security, personal data to exploration of identity.
"This teaching material can be presented together or separately, in the school program or at home, and can be modified according to the ideas and teaching experience," said Facebook.
A total of 18 of these teaching materials can be accessed through Facebook's Safety Center and Berkman Klein's Digital Literacy Resource Platform.
Currently, new material is available in English, Facebook plans to add it to 45 languages in the near future.
Facebook will also collaborate with non-profit institutions to adapt this material and add other new material so that it can be used by teachers.
Before creating the Digital Literacy Library, Facebook created a Youth Portal, also in the Safety Center, containing ways to use technology safely, including providing tips on security in cyberspace and how to report content.
