The Cyber Security Research Institute and Communication or Communication and Information System Security Research Center (CISSReC) expect a distributed denial of service (DDoS) to remain the most serious threat this year.
"In 2019 it is estimated that cyber attacks will be more powerful than in previous years," said Chairman of the Pratama Persadha Cyber Security and Communication Research Institute (CISSReC) via e-mail to Antara in Semarang on Sunday morning (6/1).
DDoS is an attempt to make a computer or server unable to work properly so it is very dangerous and harmful. He estimates that the intensity of attacks on the biometric security system will continue to increase. This is because of the increasingly popular use of biometric authentication.
"This authentication is claimed to offer a strong level of security. However, in fact it actually has a vulnerability that is quite dangerous," said Pratama.
According to him, this opportunity is used by cyber criminals to steal sensitive information. They not only took advantage of the weaknesses of biometric authentication found, but also from data collection and storage.
He said the leakage of biometric data could also be dangerous for national sovereignty, for example, biometric data electronic identity cards (KTP-el). If the KTP-el biometric data is leaked, the data can be used by foreign parties or parties not responsible for identifying personally based on biometric data obtained.
Regarding the opening of a broad application programming interface (API) by companies and banks, Pratama explained that the opening of API widely could result in the opening of sensitive company information. In addition, cyber criminals can take advantage of API vulnerabilities to steal data and personal identification information. This problem, according to Pratama, can reduce the reputation and financial collapse of the company.
The most popular event in 2018, he said, was a security problem that hit Facebook. Hackers made a request for the Facebook API system, which allows applications to communicate with the platform to get more user information.
"As a result, hackers managed to take over about 50 million user accounts. This resulted in a drop in Facebook shares," he said.
According to him, it is not impossible this year a similar incident will occur again in different big companies. That is, cyber security factors have been dominantly influencing current economic practices.
