Google finally launched a payment solution over the phone with the Google Wallet service that can be used starting on Monday (9/19/2011). With Google Wallet, a person can become a kind of mobile wallet and payment can be done to bring the phone to a means to pay at checkout via near field communication technology (NFC) which has been applied in a number of smartphone models.
"We've tested it extensively, and today we released the first version of the application on Sprint," wrote Osama Bedier, vice president of Payments Google on the company's official blog on Monday. Nexus smartphone users who subscribe to Sprint's 4G can try the service via OTA (over the air) update.
For a while, this new service supports payment with credit cards and Google Citi Mastercard Prepaid Card. Especially for Google users Prepaid Card will get a bonus of 10 dollars if activate it on Google Wallet until the end of the year. However, in the future will also be supported by Visa, Discover, and American Express.
"Our goal is to make you enter all credit card payments to the Google Wallet, so you can say goodbye to them including your traditional wallet," said Bedier.
To be able to take advantage of these services do require smartphones that support NFC technology. NFC Chip Google first introduced the Nexus S Android smartphone that uses Android software 2.3 or Gingerbread. Payment can only be done in outlets that are already using NFC payment terminals and supports Google Wallet. Want to know more like what how it works, see the video.
