Qantas will become the first airline to have a facility surfing tablet device wirelessly.
The trials will be launched late October 2011 in one of the planes Beoing 767-300 domestic routes. Qantas passengers can enjoy entertainment program going in the tablet provided the airline's country of kangaroos.
Brand tablets have not been confirmed, but Qantas says iPad is one tablet to be considered.
Trials "Q Streams" for six weeks this allows passengers to surf in their own tablets, also on their laptops or smart phones. And this trial will be an important part of the scheme.
"We are very pleased to become the first airline in the world to try the wireless streaming products," said Alison Webster, Customer Experience Manager of Qantas.
After testing is completed, it will be developed more widely to domestic and overseas flights. These tablets are only working on the plane.
Replacing entertainment system mounted on the back seat with this tablet, will significantly save fuel, also reduces the weight of the aircraft. This is an important consideration given the increasing fuel prices soared and the pollution tax controversy in Australia.
"We focus on environmentally friendly fuels and have a great commitment to it," Webster said.
American Airlines has launched a similar program with the tablet samsung Galaxy for first class passengers and business keals on domestic flights, but the content is pre-loaded, rather than direct streaming.
While the airlines that offer cheap fares, Jetstar already offers several rental iPad in their flight.
